Arsenal eye £51.5m 'next Messi' transfer as Ivan Toney January deal stance revealed

With the January transfer window now firmly into its second week, the moves teams are making are starting to ramp up across Europe. Arsenal will be hopeful they can find some decent opportunities in the market that can help them get a push for the Premier League title over the line.

A centre-forward has been firmly in the frame as an area the Gunners could look to improve in, with the likes of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen linked. There’s been other recent reports claim that a full-back will be of interest, while a midfield option could also be on the cards.

The ‘next Messi’

Arsenal are one of a number of clubs lining up a potential move for Estevao Willian Almeida de Oliveira Goncalves, otherwise known as ‘Messinho’. That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, which claims that the Brazilian youngster, who has been likened to Lionel Messi, is on the radar of some top teams.

The Palmeiras youth product has a release clause worth £51.5million, with the Gunners joined by the likes of Barcelona, Man City, Man United, Chelsea and PSG.

Ivan Toney

Much has been said of Ivan Toney and his future in the January transfer window, with Arsenal and Chelsea amongst the teams leading a potential charge for the striker. However, according to ESPN, Brentford are reluctant to let the England international leave as he nears a return to action.

Thomas Partey

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has continued to be linked with an exit as far back as the summer, however it seems as though he’s likely to stay at the club this January. Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside: “If you remember in the summer, Partey was already considered as candidate for sale until end of June, but then Mikel Arteta decided to keep him; so anything can happen there [the midfield] in the summer. For now it’s very quiet, as he’s injured now so there are no concrete updates so far.”
